Color Improvisations to Open July 11 in Stuttgart, Germany

In mid-2008, Nancy Crow invited several artists to submit work for consideration for Color Improvisations, an exhibit she was developing with Genie Curtze. The work was to be based on a 4-plex format, machine pieced, and large - 6 to 8 feet square. The resulting exhibit, Color Improvisations, will consist of 54 large machine pieced works by 26 artists from the United States, Switzerland, Germany, and Canada. These artists are dedicated to expressing their individual visions. We are honored that the exhibit will include five CQA members: Bonnie Bucknam, Janet Steadman, Pat Hedwall, Nancy Cordry and Melisse Laing. The opening venue will be the Haus der Wirtschaft in Stuttgart, Germany. The exhibit will run from July 11 to August 25, 2010, with the grand opening reception on Sunday, July 11, 2010 at 2 pm. Additional venues booked thus far are:

Galerie Lac
St. Marie aux Mines, France
September 16-19, 2010 (this is during the European Patchwork convention, check the website for more information)
Kunst und Gewerbe (Museum of Art and Commerce)
Regierungsprasidium Karlsruhe, Germany
May 8 - June 12, 2011

The exhibition will travel throughout 2010-2012. Additional venues in Europe, Japan, and the United States will be announced. A catalog of the exhibit will be available in July 2010.

Spiral Design Techniques

Helen Remick shares:

I have written about my spiral design techniques for Subversive Stitchers: Women Armed with Needles. I describe my technique, inspirations, and a bit of math. I began putting spirals in my quilts after a trip to Paris, during which I took almost as many pictures of spiral staircases as of the other wonderful sights.

The Contemporary QuiltArt Association is pleased to present "Threads of Conversation" at University House Issaquah. The juried exhibit will run from March 8 - July 11, 2010. University House Issaquah is located on the Sammamish Plateau at 22975 SE Black Nugget Road, Issaquah. By partnering with University House Issaquah our members hope to enhance the attractive residence with art that is intriguing and thought provoking. CQA members will be providing two information talks about the work to residents

Threads of Conversation - opens this week!

Sharon Rowley, one of the jurors for this show shares this about the show:

As we jurors have come to expect from CQA members, the entries featured strong design characteristics and execution. This show, though, will live up to its name, “Threads of Conversation”, because there is a lot for the audience to discuss! The variety of styles alone is quite something; representational (“Spring at Lake Cushman”), evocative (“Coral Pollen Pearls”), abstract (“Cedar Path”), and whimsical (“Hangover III”). Techniques and materials go well beyond traditional to invite the viewer to come in close and explore (“Dark Secrets” and “Coscinodiscus”).

Other Jurors: Mary Lewis and Patti Shaw
